TRANSITION IN ACTION - New Book coming in October

TRANSITION IN ACTION

Totnes and District 2030

An Energy Descent Action Plan

Jacqi Hodgson & Rob Hopkins

This is a lively and colourful community-based guide to reducing local dependence on fossil

fuels and reducing the local carbon footprint over the next 20 years, a period during which they

anticipate changes associated with declining oil supplies and the impacts of climate change to

become more apparent. The Energy Descent Action Plan has been developed… Continue

More start-up questions!

More questions... our Cornwall group has been "mulling" for 6 months and is planning awarenss-raising events for the coming fall and winter. We are currently debating whether or not to apply for a grant to help us get going. On the one hand, it would be very helpful to have funds to cover training, printing, advertising, renting space and movies etc. At the same time, we wonder whether it would be too much too soon. We are a small, all volunteer group and can only do so much, regardless of…

Local Food Transition Activities in Ontario!

Hi all!

Hope everybody's enjoying the weather!

I'm doing a quick scanning of local food activities put up by Transition Activities, I was wondering what has been going on in your towns?

In Guelph, our last public meeting was on Local Food and we had people come in to talk about backyard chickens!

One question I have is: "What value-added can Transition Towns do in relation to local food?" At…

How's your EDAP?

We in Cornwall, as members of a very new group tackling transition, are just getting our mind around the 12 steps and EDAPs. We’d love to hear about others’ EDAP experiences.

First, the terms energy descent and energy descent action plan don't seem very people-friendly to us, at least not for Cornwall. Have any of you found terms that more readily convey these concepts?

Second, it seems odd that creating the "action plan" is the final of the 12 steps. Is there life…

TRANSITION ONTARIO SITE HAS MOVED...

Greetings members from Ontario,

Given the recent decision of Ning to change its pricing policies to a paid model, Transition Ontario has moved to a new location: Chris Mills and I have had a couple of conversations about what to do with Transition Ontario. Here's the decision: If you desire to continue your membership in the Transition Social Network, please join http://transitionus.ning.com When you join, one of us will greet you and direct you to the new location.

If you created a local GROUP on this site, you will need to re-create your local group using this link: http://transitionus.ning.com/groups/group/new

It is important that you do this right away. This site will be deleted any day now.

If you have already taken this step, please visit the original site and encourage your neighbors to follow your example.

Let me know when you have questions.

Permaculture: The Path of Regenerative DesignAt its simplest, permaculture is an eco-logical approach to design. It can be described as a way of thinking, making decisions and designing things based on observing nature. Permaculture has a set of ethics and design principles which can be applied to physical things - like landscapes or cities - as well as to invisible things - like business models, and our personal lives.In this special visual presentation, you will learn about the basics of…See More

Who we are....

TRANSITION ONTARIO is a networking site for those interested in exploring and/or implementing the Transition model in their community. This site is being created through grassroots participation, and is continually evolving. It is a spontaneously arising effort to connect 'transitioners' with each other and to encourage and support the development of local Transition Initiatives.

The Transition approach empowers communities to squarely face the challenges of peak oil and climate change, and to unleash the collective genius of their own people to find the answers to this momentous question:

For all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how are we going to:
  • drastically reduce carbon emissions (in response to climate change);
  • significantly rebuild resilience (in response to peak oil);
  • and greatly strengthen our local economy (in response to economic instability)?

Transition Initiatives make no claim to have all the answers, but by building on the wisdom of the past and accessing the pool of ingenuity, skills and determination in our communities, the solutions can readily emerge. Now is the time for us to take stock and start re-creating our future in ways that are not based on cheap, plentiful and polluting oil but on localized food, sustainable energy sources, resilient local economies and an enlivened sense of community well-being.
